As an initiative of the Waterbury Regional Chamber, Young Professionals of the Waterbury Region (YPOWR) was created to encourage young professionals to live, work and thrive within the Waterbury community. For the past 8 years, YPOWR has put on a CEO Speaker Series – which showcases local community and business leaders.

Joe Gugliotti, Managing Member at WORX, led a career-spanning discussion about what it takes to run a company – a lively and motivating presentation based on his personal mantra, “Too Dumb To Fail.”

The 75-minute presentation, held at the Post University Online Education Hub in downtown Waterbury and attended by nearly 100 professionals, featured both anecdotal recommendations for the audience and specific business stories from Joe’s multi-decade career. Throughout, Gugliotti spoke frankly about all-important professional and life skills – focus, energy, communication, exercise, expectations and accountability.

The presentation also spoke to the significance of community involvement, and making a difference in the area you live in. This is something important not just to Joe and WORX, but to many in the Greater Waterbury community. From volunteering and giving back to organizations like Special Olympics or the United Way, Joe emphasized the importance of how actions inspire more actions.

Responses from several attendees made light of the fact that Gugliotti gave them a new perspective on how to achieve – and define – success within their own careers.
